Save The Date Postcards

Save The Date Postcards

Once you’ve set a date, it’s time to send out your Save The Date postcards. All you need to list is the bride and groom’s names, the date and the city where the wedding will take place. Additional information such as the venue and the time of the wedding are omitted, even for destination weddings. You may also include your wedding website address to direct guests for more information. At the bottom of the card, it is common to put “formal invitation to follow”. Save the Date cards do not have to coordinate with your wedding, but you can have it match your wedding stationary.

Suggested Postcard Size: 5″ x 7″ or 4.25″ x 5.5″

Wedding Invitations

Wedding Invitations

Whether they’re refined, sophisticated, chic, romantic, fun, or formal, wedding invitations are the single most important aspect of your wedding stationery. Invitations should include the host of the wedding like the Bride’s parents or both families or the Bride’s & Groom’s names only, the wedding date and time, venue name, and the city and state. Any other information should be listed on the reverse side, on separate cards, or directly on your wedding website.

Suggested Paper Size: 5″ x 7″ with a coordinating A7 envelope.

RSVP Cards

Response Cards

Do include a separate Response Card with your invitation, even if you are requesting guests reply online. Including website information or RSVP information on the main invitation can clutter the design. The information included on a response card should be the reply by date, a line for their name, a response  as accepts/ regrets. Include a space for recipients to write in the number of guests attending. You may also want to include a meal option when needed and/or a line to list dietary restrictions. To save on costs, opt for a postcard RSVP. Formal response cards are sent self-addressed and pre-stamped as a courtesy for guests.

Suggested Paper Size: 4.25″ x 5.5″ with a coordinating A2 envelope.

Rehearsal Dinner Invitations

Rehearsal Dinner Invitations

Rehearsal Dinner Invitations are the most effective way to spread the word about your rehearsal dinner and give guests a heads up on what to expect.

Suggested Paper Size: 5″ x 7″ with a coordinating A7 envelope. They can also be sent as a smaller size 4”x 6” card A2 envelope along with your matching wedding invitations.

Bridal Shower Invitations

Bridal Shower Invitations

Work with your bridal shower host on making selections for these. These invitations do not have to coordinate with your wedding stationery and are typically less formal, so mix it up and go wild!

Suggested Paper Size: 5″ x 7″ with a coordinating A7 envelope

Thank You Cards

Thank You Cards

And don’t forget to thank your guests! These folded cards are typically printed with the same message on each card and include the couple’s new married name. You may add a photo from the wedding or match it to the rest of your stationery. Add a personal touch by personally writing a special gratitude note to each guest, thanking them for their generosity and attendance or just for being there on your special day.

Suggested Paper Size: folded 4.25″ x 5.5″ with a coordinating A2 envelope.

Menu & Table Cards

Menu & Table Cards

Get your guests even more excited for your special celebration with custom wedding menus. Menu cards are a great way to pull your tablescape together, and they’re very purposeful in letting guests know what’s for dinner. Whether you’re hosting a sit-down formal dinner or a fun buffet-style venue, this is a great way to indicate to guests what to expect.

Suggested Paper Size: 4” x 9.25” long

Table numbers are a must to indicate where guests should go. You can get creative with these, but it is recommended for them to coordinate with your overall wedding concept.

Suggested Paper Size: 5″ x 7″, or various shapes.

Place Cards & Escort Cards

Place Cards & Escort Cards

Place Cards are not to be confused with Escort Cards, simply list the guest’s name and are placed on the table setting of each person. Generally, place cards only include the person’s first name, but if you have guests with the same first name you may add a last initial. Escort Cards direct guests to a table rather than a seat. These are usually grouped and placed at the entrance of the venue to help locate your table, maybe attached to a small gift, flowers, or a champagne glass.

Suggested Paper Size: Flat Escort Cards 2″ x 3.5″ & Folded Place Cards to business card size 2″ x 3.5″

Design

Aesthetic Design Elements

You can choose any color scheme for your custom stationery designs. A color scheme is a combination of two or more color pairings used in an aesthetic design. Typically color options for wedding stationery would be schemes such as pastels, neutral colors, and black & white palettes, paired with printed metallic gold or silver details on the final stationery. Pops of color and washed-out color shades are becoming popular if you are looking for something more unique. Bright colors are more appropriate for Bridal Shower Invitations, Rehearsal Dinner Invitations or Save The Date postcards. But with personalized design, there are no rules, you are welcome to use any color combinations to express your unique style.

The most popular wedding invitation backgrounds are soft-white, ivory, cream, or undertones of pastel colors paired with watercolor art, complementary solid ink color, or metallic foil stamped. Please help to provide any color inspiration images or a picked-out color from your preferred print shop supplier. If you are looking for a particular color scheme we can match any color to a coated CMYK Pantone for your final production. Please let us know if you would like a color match to a sample.

Paper thickness for wedding invitations is typically anywhere from 14 pt. to 30 pt., 30 pt. being the thickest & heaviest paper card that is stiffer. With 16 pt. being the most common thickness, please pick up a sample from your preferred printer for reference. The most common paper textures are Cotton, Silk, Felt or Linen fibers, Glassine, Pearlescent, or Translucent Milky Vellum. Please let us know if there is a particular paper type you prefer to be used for your custom design. For example, watercolor art looks best paired with cotton or felt fiber texture.

Invitation Envelope & Thank You Card Envelope colors are typically the same as the invitation background color. Alternatively use a complementary color that matches the script ink color or a color picked out from the artwork. Inside the envelope liner you can use a pop of script ink color, metallic foil, vintage or watercolor artwork, or even a sketched map can be printed on the inside. Make your envelope unique by choosing an interesting or colorful stamp to pull your whole wedding theme together. Be sure to include a matching Recipient Address by uploading your guest address list. Please read about do’s and don’ts when it comes to how to address wedding envelopes so you don’t offend anyone. Wedding Envelope paper types generally range from linen and cotton styles to cardstock, parchment, or vellum.

Embellishments are a bride’s favorite! No matter what envelope you choose, add-on embellishments to the outside of your envelope may vary in taste. Some common stylish options to hold all your stationery in place are vellum wraps, printed paper bands, various-width fabric ribbons, and wax seals. Bands can be printed on matching paper or transparent milky vellum. Create a beautiful opening statement for your guests when they receive your invitations with a gorgeous wax seal. Seals are used in conjunction with a personalized monogram stamp or generic image stamp for a single application.

There are a vast variety of ribbon styles to choose from in different mm widths; from double-faced silk satin ribbons, woven edge organza sheer ribbon, velvet ribbon, habotai ribbon, burlap ribbon, embroidered ribbon, printed chiffon ribbon, to decorative rope trim. Handmade ripped ribbons have an organic feel with their frayed edges and can add a hint of romance to your wedding invitations. Optionally woven silk satin ribbon has a clean and polished look, perfect for a classic look.

Besides coordinating wedding papers and choosing a stationery color, one of the more important decisions before ordering custom invitations will be what printing technique to pick for your custom invitations. Out of the variety of printing possibilities such as letterpress, engraving, embossing, thermography, spot printing, digital printing, or foil stamping you need to choose the option that will best suit your finished look without breaking your budget. Here are some helpful tips on printing you will need to know.

A Vintage Letterpress method can provide custom pieces showcasing the debossing printing technique either with or without ink indented. The letterpress technique offers wonderful tactile results, with each printed piece hand-placed through the Letterpress. Letterpress design looks best with a clean and simple layout. Avoid cluttering the invitation with excessive text, and leave sufficient space to allow the design and typography to shine. Its timeless appeal and unique aesthetic have captured the hearts of many, making it a sought-after printing choice for wedding invitations and other special occasions. Letterpress creates an indented image pushed into the paper in a similar way to foil blocking.

The most luxurious option isn’t a printing process at all—similar to Letterpress, Foil Stamping gives your wording a metallic shine without using ink. Each card is hand-pressed with metallic foil using a metal plate and can be used in spot printing specific sections.

The most familiar form of printing, also known as Flat or Digital Printing, is the process of applying ink directly to paper or cardstock resulting in a seamless, or flat, texture on the paper’s surface. If you are tight on time or budget, digital printing is the quickest print method.

Unique specialty details can be developed with embossing or engraving. Engraving is the process of removal of some of the material by scratching or burning with a laser to create your design. Embossing is the pushing out of a design with a die to create a raised or sunken 3D design in a material where thick cotton or felt paper is pressed inward to make an indentation.

Feathering your paper edges or custom edging your wedding invitations helps to create a unique, elegant, and memorable look. With Die Cut invitations you’ll not be limited by the sizes and shapes of the usual, instead letting your invitations stand out as extraordinary! These cuts are made on the outer edge of your print material. Die Cut invitations are cut-out shapes ultimately determined by the shape of the material itself. Altering the edge cut can create a completely different form altogether.

The most minimalistic edging finish is rounded corners. To slightly alter the shape of your printed material, you can simply “cut corners.” Rounded corners give the media a subtly different look and have the practical effect of helping to prevent dog-earing.

In contrast to die-cut edges, feathered edges are described as having a Deckle Edge. Deckled edge is a series of imperfect tears that will create a rustic, classic look that is hand-torn to create that elegant, hand-made, organic paper appearance. Preferably you should print your invitations first before feathering the edges since the rough edge has frayed pieces that may clog up nozzles and damage a printer. A hand letterpress might need to be used to place each invitation individually.

Laser-cut invitations have become increasingly popular in the realm of wedding stationery. Many brides are choosing laser cut invitations because of the extensive range of designs available, the convenience and the ability to customize is endless. The intricate lace-like detail, precision cutting, and versatility create a look that elevates your invitations to a whole new level.

Discover the endless possibilities of various types of cut-out patterns. Whether you’re drawn to the delicate lace, the organic shapes, leaves and flowers, geometrical shapes, or monograms. Laser-cut invitations offer a wide range of cut-out patterns to suit different themes and styles on any paper substrate.

Choosing a style helps to narrow down the overall wedding stationery theme and overall feeling for the wedding. Most wedding invitation imagery and finished overall look are expressed by a feeling as Elegant, Formal, Vintage Script, Rustic Patina, Minimalistic, Simple, Tonal, Chic, Modern, Neutral, Botanical, Organic, Glamorous, Moody, Tropical, Delicate, Romantic or Bold & Typographic.

Make your design truly one-of-a-kind by adding embellishments like custom venue drawings. Add a custom wedding venue illustration and print it on a details card, response card, envelope liner, wedding program, etc. This custom image will add a special, sentimental touch to your wedding stationery.

All our artwork is personally hand-painted, illustrated, or watercolor before digitizing. Also, we can manipulate vintage or any photo images for custom envelope liners. Well, there are lots of ways and plenty of sources to find pretty pictures and lovely artwork for your personalized wedding stationery.

A custom venue drawing is a pencil sketch of your venue as a building, arch, landscape, or a scene of a destination and is the main feature of your stationery. Please provide us with a few different photos with various perspectives of your subject if you wish to add this unique element to your personalized stationery. Each venue’s illustration design is unique to each wedding.

Elevate your wedding with other custom image ideas, a cocktail watercolor drawing for your bar cart, a cocktail napkin with your dog’s drawing, or a destination map drawing on a program for your guests to help locate your venue.

Classic monogrammed initials are one of the most popular image choices for wedding stationery. A monogram is an emblematic or decorative design consisting of two or more alphabetic letters combined or interlaced, commonly the broom’s and bride’s initials. Add a fancy calligraphy frame to your monogram printed and die cut as an envelope sticker or wax stamp.

Another way to add a stylish feeling to your custom stationary is by picking out elegant fonts. Script and calligraphy are the most popular fonts used for wedding invitations. They’re perfect fonts for wedding initials as well as they are both stylish and romantic.

A script font is a typeface that is designed to look like handwriting or calligraphy, but beware as guests might find it hard to read the information on your invitations. Choose an elegant script font, but make sure it’s legible enough for grandma to read. Combinations of serif and script font pairings are the best fonts for wedding invitations. Choosing a font combination allows calligraphy names for the couple and an easy-to-read serif font for crucial information such as dates, hymns, and readings. The best font style for wedding invitations will also work as the best font for a wedding seating chart or wedding programs.

The best font for wedding invitation envelopes will be the readable font, although sometimes the addressee can be in a handwriting or calligraphy font. The perfect choice for return addresses on RSVP cards will always be the readable font but save the dates can be a combination. There are many varieties of elegant wedding script fonts to choose from, and you might not need to hire a costly wedding calligrapher. Unless you like to use a personalized script on Deckled Edge hand-torn paper invitations that can not be used in an industrial printer.
